Barefoot Angels is a NGO
headquartered in Santa Ana, El Salvador. It’s mission is to shield
kids, 3 to 18, from ever increasing gang pressures . This program is
an examination of the struggle currently being played out between
the organization and the gangs, MS 13 and the 18th Street gang.
Literally it is a war fought over the lives of the children. All are
at risk.

Steve Baum, a native New Orleanian, first honed his film skills at
New York University with a Master of Fine Arts from the Tisch School
of the Arts. Most recently he has been shooting programs on pressing
social issues, such as decoding US infrastructure disasters
(Discovery), privacy and terrorism in the US (ABC News Productions),
DNA exonerations (Innocence Project . . . Discovery Times), the
carbon sequestration frontier (Nova Science), learning matters
(Lehrer News Hour) and credit card, banking abuses, (Frontline).
His production company is credited with helping countless newly
diagnosed cancer patients through his multi-part documentary series
“Cancer: Who are You Now?” which dealt with the early
unsettled time after cancer patients learn of their diagnosis.
“Genetic Dilemmas” a NIH funded documentary, website, and CME
program, co-produced with the Hastings Center wrestles with the
ethical issues derived out of the new medical paradigm. SBP’s 2008
production is Salvadorian Salvation. It is an
examination of the life and death struggle currently being played
out in El Salvador. Barefoot Angels is a social activist NGO

Only series. It is a family musical video series
dedicated to the production of real world, nurturing programming for
children and adults alike. The first video in the series is "Underwater

Currently in post-production is Steve’s independent documentary
project "The Day of the Dead". It is a deep gaze into a
Mexican landscape filled with art, spirits, memory and the basic
questions of living, and death. Eight award-winning crews
simultaneously documented the holiday in eight Mexican states.
A multi-camera live video production which Baum directed of
the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Japanese NOH dramas was so
“insightful of the Japanese esthetic” that it was selected as one of
only two gifts presented to Emperor Akihito when he visited New York
City.
